St Edmund's Episcopal Church San Marino

The Third Sunday After Epiphany, January 25th, 2015

Music at St. Edmund’s is so fine, and often moves me quite profoundly mid-service, as on the occasion of last Sunday’s Anthem “The Call of Wisdom.” The content jived so uncannily well with the Propers and the Sermon so as to indicate the great attention Mr. Hovencamp pays to our lectionary and our common worship. As happens, you may listen to this piece on Rob’s YouTube site. We are developing a parish YouTube site, and the piece should appear there also within the next week or two, and I’ll announce site launch then.

Here’s the text!

Lord of wisdom, Lord of truth, Lord of justice, Lord of mercy;
Walk beside us down the years till we see you in your glory.
Striving to attain the heights, turning in a new direction,
Entering a lonely place, welcoming a friend or stranger.
I am here, I am with you.
I have called; do you hear me?
Silver is of passing worth, gold is not of constant value,
Jewels sparkle for a while: what you long for is not lasting.
I am here, I am with you.
I have called; do you hear me?
Rulers govern under me with my insight and my wisdom.
Those who love me know my love; those who seek me find their answer.
I am here, I am with you.
I have called; do you hear me?
Lord of wisdom, Lord of truth, Lord of justice, Lord of mercy;
Walk beside us down the years till we see you in your glory.
God the Father, God the Son, Holy Spirit, co-eternal;
Glory be ascribed to you to the end of ages.
