St Edmund's Episcopal Church San Marino

The Seventh Sunday of Easter, May 17th, 2015

Bells ring out this coming Sunday, with our thirteen “Ringers”:

Joel Athey
Kelsey Burgess
Richard deLorimier
Tony Faught
Gwen Hicks
Christie Ligh
Susan Liu
Angela Mar
Mike Mathis
Robert Packer
Pam Payne
Sheree Tyler
Spencer Woodman

sounding forth under the weave and wonder of Director Sylvia Smythe. Our Bell Choir is a spectacular and dedicated set of parishioners who place their gifts in our service less than we might wish, but as often as rigorous rehearsals allow…and May 17th, for no particular reason, is when they next shout! And Tenor Soloist Joseph Garate too, and our Choir, and our inspired Organist Robert Hovencamp animating the St. Edmund’s Organ! Among your prayers, offer Gratitude for Music at St. Edmund’s.

And speaking of Music and Gratitude…Linda and Don Harris have presented St. Edmund’s with $5,000 for twenty-five black cassocks and white surplices with which to vest our Choir and visiting Choristers, (replacing vesture at least thirty years old)! New Choir Vestments will debut in September, blessed by Bishop Glasspool on her September 13th Episcopal Visitation.

Eastertide blessings,
GFW+

Where is Alien life in the rest of the Universe?

Speaking of aliens…how did the purveyor of Quaker Oats become a seminal figure in American Evangelical Fundamentalism?

Jeb Bush seeks to court a wary crowd of Evangelicals.

Meanwhile, things aren’t all roses for gay folk, as the president of Kenya and others portend.

HOUSEKEEPER: I’m writing all of you in the hope that you or someone you know might need a really good house keeper one or two days a week. Elvira Garcia has been working for us for many years and we think she is wonderful. She also works for two other St Edmunds members, the Hennacy’s and Rusty McDonnell and I think they would second my recommendation. She is honest, hard working, dependable and nice to have around. She doesn’t need much direction; she knows how to clean house, wash and iron, clean windows that are reachable, and generally keep our house in tip top shape. A person she has been working for just died and so she has two days a week free. So if you need such a person or know someone who does, please let me know and I could have Elvira come and see you for an interview. Thanks for thinking about this. –Bob Wycoff.

GARDENER: Lyon Lee ( Tori and Al Mordecai’s gardener) has found a new place to live, but he could still use more work. If you’re ready for more than mow and blow, and you’d like a kind, conscientious, meticulous gardener, Lyon is your man. Call Tori for details.

Gentlemen, mark your calendars. We breakfast at the Hennacys on Tuesday, May 12. You can RSVP Hal or Marguerite. Guests are welcome.

CARETAKER POSITION: Jay Hualde, Jane Lima’s terrific live-in nurse for many years, is available for a care-giver position. The Rector has her contact information, and thinks highly of her work and person.
